What is a Domain Name?

Every host (Computers) connected to the Internet have unique identification numerical addresses known as IP address or MAC address that helps to deliver the electronic information to the right place. As it was difficult to remember multiple IP addresses, each IP address is given a name.

The system that translates the numerical addresses of computers into more user-friendly names is known as Domain Name System (DNS). The resulting names are easier to remember and help people to find information on the Internet. The name that identifies the realm of administrative autonomy, authority, or control in the Internet, based on the Domain Name System (DNS) is called as Domain Name.

With the help of domain name it is now very simple to identify any particular web page in the Internet.
For example, when the URL "http://mediaon.com/Register-Anonymous-Domain-Names-Anonym" is browsed on the internet the domain name in this URL is mediaon.com
